How do you have a dog if you ski?

My boyfriend and I have recently moved to Colorado. We are expecting to ski a lot this winter. We are really interested in adopting a dog, and we see dogs everywhere here in Denver. But we are concerned about what to do with the dog when we are skiing over the winter.
