I use Pro-Tec's snowboarding helmet during the winter. It is basically a Pro-Tec classic helmet with earflaps and felt liner for cold weather, and is also CPSC-certified for bicycle use. And it has a clip on the back for securing a set of ski goggles too, for riding in really cold weather. joeschmoe

Please take this constructively: Considering you you don't even know how to set a waxing iron, I would suggest you try and find a job in a ski service shop and gain some experience before setting out on your own. There is a certain amount of skill involved in selecting and applying the correct wax for various applications, and a good skier can easily tell the difference between a good wax job and a poor one. It only takes one dissatisfied customer to ruin a new business. LIMA 45.05.18.77

Check out the NWS snow cover maps from time to time to see where the closest snow is:

I clicked on the "snow depth" map, and it looks like far northern Georgia near the TN border has some snow. You can get an idea of the depth and location of snow before you take off for an extended period. Of course, you'll need other map resources to plan the ability to arrive/stay at a location, but this should give you a general idea of where to go. If you're going to a state park or staying at a hotel, I recommend you call ahead to ask about the snow amounts, I'm sure they'd be happy to help. Amanda

Its great that someone is starting a 3 year old on skis - its a sport for life that they will love. The most important thing right now is that the child has fun ! is safe and then gets the concept of sliding, moving around on the skis and balancing. if you achieved that in a lesson that is great. And if you started on the concept of wedging and stopping that is good too.

The time is variable, depending on the child's abilities and even with adults it can take a while.
For 5-6 year olds, after 5-10 one hour group lessons they would normally be pretty much able to ski in a snow plow, turning and braking on a green run. A 3 year old is less physically capable.

they should have covered dealing with a small child in your ski instructor training ? if not, ask your technical director. ratava
