Do I need insurance to operate a jet ski in Connecticut?

My family recently bought waterfront property in CT and I’m looking to buy a jet ski. I know I need a small boaters/jet ski certificate, but what else do I need? A friend said I needed insurance. Is insurance required or optional?

    I would always have insurance. If you have an accident or hit somebody you’ll be glad you did. Insurance for a PWC is cheap, so just get it. Derrick S
