I’d recommend Zermatt. My Family and I went there last year and it is so cool it is now officially in my top 3 favorite places in the world! I think it’s the number one ski resort in Europe and one of the top 5 in the World. Bangable

Big question. Lots of choices. Switzerland is fabulous for skiing – and I’ve skiied over 40 resorts here. If you are really, really good skiers and like lots of off-piste and apres ski you will like Verbier or Zermatt. Zermatt is particularly spectacular, but both resorts have drawbacks – both are expensive and in the case of Zermatt, it’s quite spread out. If you are average to good intermediate skiers and want plenty of slopes to ski on and a reasonable apres ski scene, you might consider the Jungfrau – Wengen is very pretty and Grindelwald is a bit livelier. I would also recommend Flims, Davos, Saas-Fee, Crans-Montana and St Moritz. There are a number of resorts associated with the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, Champery probably the best.

If you want somewhere a bit different with good on-piste skiing, but you’re not too bothered about apres ski as long as there are a few bars and restaurants for a cosy time, consider Lenzerheide, Adelboden, Andermatt, Lenk, Klosters, Engelberg, Nendaz, Les Diablerets or Arosa. Val D’Annivers has some lovely skiing, but to get the most out of it you really need a car and/or a guide. It’s the only resort I’d say that of, but it is pretty special.

Saas-Fee, Zermatt, the ski resorts around the Aletsch area (Bettmeralp, Riederalp, Fiescheralp) and a few other smaller resorts are car-free. Most Swiss resorts are prettier than in most other countries.

Adelboden Lenk, Davos , Arosa and Leukerbad also have natural spas. Leukerbad is more about spas than skiing but the skiing is respectable.

A lot of resorts are linked (e.g. Davos and Kloster, Flims and Laax, etc), but also one of the joys of skiing in Switzerland is the metronomic punctuality of the Swiss transport system which has a bus or train to every single resort. It makes it possible to base yourself and get to visit more than one resort. For example from Lenk you can ski the slopes around Gstaad quite easily by public transport. If you were based at, say, Klosters, you could not only take in Davos, but also have day trips to Flims, Arosa and Lenzerheide – not that you will run out of skiing around Davos-Klosters! St Moritz has a number of good ski areas nearby.

I’ve missed out a few other resorts, not because they are bad but the ones I’ve told you I personally like best.

Switzerland isn’t cheap, but the quality is good. If you are on a budget many resorts have Youth Hostels, which are actually more like simple hotels. I use them all the time, often through choice. You can also get good value through the many tour operators who work out of the UK and in most cases are flexible to allow you to use the excellent public transport to get to the resort. Incidentally Lenzerheide, Adelboden, Nendaz, Flims, Laax, Saas-Fee, Crans-Montana, Leukerbad and Val D’Annivers are not on rail routes, but have excellent bus services to the resorts from nearby stations.

The myswitzerland site below has lots of recommendations and I’ve never found any of their recommended hotels anything less than they claim to be. They will mail their brochures to you. nicoatridge
