The largest ski region in the world is Les Portes du Soleil with 650km of piste and 230 lifts. The largest fully linked area is Les Trois Vallees in France with 600km piste and 180 lifts. Strictly speaking neither is a ski resort, they are ski regions and several villages share the region. In the case of Les Trois Vallees, there are eight resorts including Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens. For Les Portes du Soleil (which crosses the border between Switzerland and France) there are 14 resorts, the best known being Avoriaz, Morzine and Champery. Vail is the largest in the USA with 215km of piste and 32 lifts whilst Whistler Blackcomb is the largest in the Americas with 228km of piste and 39 lifts. nicoatridge
