I’m thinking about going to a ski resort as a graduation present for myself this December. But I am from Texas and am not used to cold weather. In detail what is essential to have that I should start buying now?

Thanks

  1. Live to Ski says:

    1. Good socks and undergarments. NOT COTTON!!! Smartwool or similar for socks. Bergeline, Tekwik or similar for undergarments.

    2. Goretex jacket and pants. Could be lined or not. Maybe a zip out liner. Kjus, Cloud Veil, Arcteryx, North Face, Mountain Hardware, Columbia are some good, popular brands. I tend to go with a shell type jacket and wear a medium weight fleece jacket under. Similar with pants.

    3. Turtle fur or similar hat and neck gaiter (gaiter for colder days).

    4. Gloves or mittens. Swany and Reusch are good brands.

    5. Goggles and glasses. Smith, Oakley, Bolle, Scott are good brands. Live to Ski

The essentials include helmet, facemask/scarf, goggles (skiing/snowboarding while the resort is making snow is EXTREMELY miserable without goggles), waterproof & windproof jacket, waterproof & windproof pants (NOT JEANS… i can’t tell you how many crazy pp i’ve seen wearing soaking wet jeans!), some sort of long johns or tights for underneath the pants, sweatshirt or Under Armour shirt, thick ski/snowboard socks (not ankle high socks but knee high), gloves (preferably mittens… they keep the heat in a lot better). And unless you are renting you will, of course, need ski boots, poles and skis or snowboard and snowboard boots. Chynna
