    Most of the big lakes around you have private party concessions that rent jet skies, boats etc. the list is to long to paste here. A couple top choices of mine are Clear lake and Shasta lake. The big problem you face is that at the popular lakes and campgrounds the weekends are booked solid through summer. Now there may be some first arrival sites at or near these lakes and getting one requires you to be the first one there usually by thursday night if you want to stay through the weekend.

    Google map for what’s around you and then search campgrounds that are at or near your destination of choice. Most campgrounds that have first come sites only will not be listed on the above link but by searching the national forest listings in the area of choice you will find them. Also woodalls campground directory will list private operations as well
